Have you ever watched “Extreme Home Makeover” and wanted to be a part of it? Have you wanted to help specific people, but just a nonprofit organization?
Barnraisings creates a direct connection between donors and recipients. We expanded the idea of a typical barn raising to building things like a new roof for a veteran, a wheelchair ramp for a disabled nurse, and even a new home for a hit and run victim. New technology allows these projects to be crowdfunded. and we include a volunteer sign up list so you can not just donate money but your time. Think Extreme Home Makeover, broaden it beyond homes, and add a crowdfunding/crowd volunteering element to it. That’s what Barnraisings is all about.
Jim is a nonprofit executive and social entrepreneur who started Barnraisings after the idea won the Minnesota Idea Open in 2012. Barnraisings.com acts like Kickstarter for Minnesota nonprofits, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities. Jim has held c-suite positions with the American Red Cross, More Than Me, and Minnesota Zoo. He is also a design thinking facilitator and nonprofit consultant. Jim is recognized for being a 2014 Humphrey School Policy Fellow and White House Innovation Fellow finalist.
